Make your Wedding Lovely with a Seasonal Theme

Make your Wedding Lovely with a Seasonal Theme

by Jerry Blackburn

A theme wedding is quite easy to plan. When using a theme you have a basic idea to go off of, so it is easier to plan out the details, such as food, location and dcor. There are hundreds of theme ideas that can be used for a wedding. Almost anything imaginable can be turned into a theme. One of the typical themes chosen is a seasonal theme. By using the ideas of spring, summer, fall and winter, it can be a snap to plan out a lovely wedding theme.

A Flowery Delight – The Spring Theme

The spring time is all abut birth, newness and, of course, flowers. A spring theme is ideal for a wedding because it brings in the idea of new beginnings and captures everything that both weddings and spring represent. Colors that work best for spring are going to be pastel colors, like pink, blue and yellow. Almost any flower will work because most flowers bloom in the spring. Food is also quite easy because spring is a good time for fresh vegetables like asparagus and carrots. For a twist, the wedding cake can be a carrot cake, to represent one of the vegetable from this season.

In the Heat – The Summer Theme

Summer is perfect for an outdoor wedding. The risk of adverse weather is minimized and the weather is perfect for guests. The late evening summer wedding is especially popular with the backdrop of the setting sun. Summer is usually represented by water and warmth. The color choices would be bright and natural, like blues, whites and tans. Flowers are going to be bold or delicate – almost anything goes in the summer. You may use bolder for daytime and delicate for evening. Fresh fruits and vegetables are plentiful this time of year and should be a part of the menu. The food should be kept light and easy. Finger foods or even barbeque work well. The wedding cake could be a great fruity lemon flavor, for something different.

Crisp and Clean – The Fall Theme

Fall is a time of year when people love to come together. It is a great family time and as such a great time for a wedding. Fall is about rich, deep colors and end of season foods. You may opt to use more dried flowers that represent the season and the harvest. You can use plenty of foods that are typical of this time of year, like pumpkins, squash, turkey and other filling foods. The colors are going to be bold and rich – orange, red, yellow and brown. You want to take advantage of the beauty of the leaves changing colors and incorporate that into your wedding. If weather permits, an outdoor ceremony may even be an option. For the cake go with a spicy pumpkin or chocolate cake.

Snow and Ice Beauty – The Winter Theme

A winter wedding is all about elegance. There is something about the white, starkness of winter that speaks about simplicity and elegance. You should take full advantage of the typical winter weather including snow and icicles. It should be kept simple with simple flowers, like lilies or roses. The food should be hearty and warm. The colors can be either blue and white or royal deep colors, like red or purple. You can really go either way. This theme is perfect for the use of a horse drawn carriage or the roaring fireplace at the reception. For the cake try a traditional vanilla.
