Most couple marry aiming that their love will survive the best and worst of times. In many cases they opt to divorce as a result. When a married couple has problems in their marriage, they will usually file for a legal separation. When applying for a separation, a reason for it has to be given.
In America, about 49% of marriages end in divorce and only 52% of marriages last 15 years or longer. The rates in percentages range from a high of 64 for Sweden, to a low of 12 for Italy, with Israel and Greece at 26 and 18, respectively.

A few of the most common issues that lead to separation are infidelity, communication issues, abuse, incompatibility and financial problems. Many times if couples are unable to communicate effectively with one another, small problems will get blown into larger ones. When one party is unable to take it anymore they may take measures to file for a legal separation. Many people mention they decided to divorce because they couldn’t get along.
According to various studies conducted on this subject, it has been observed that people, who have had a happy family life, where their parents have been happily married, have a lower risk of separation. Often those who have money wait until later in life to get married are less likely to have this issue. Couples following religions that does not encourage break-up, mostly never separate.
When spouses make the decision to legally separate, it can have far-reaching implications on everything from their careers, emotional health, and financial stability. People who are experiencing the end of a marriage often have mood swings, concentration problems, fatigue, insomnia, tension and a variety of other health problems. Some fall into depression, with negative thoughts running about in their minds and often have nightmares.
Legal separation has a profound impact on children too. They long to be with both the parents and suffer loneliness, confusion, anger, and divided loyalties. Children are often too young to comprehend the reasons for the failure of their parents’ marriage and hurt more than anyone else in the family. Those who witness the breakup of their family often lose trust and faith in simple things, becoming withdrawn, angry and resentful.
